1 in 5 people consider that forcing their partner to have sex is not rape!
Five years after the start of #MeToo, the association Mรฉmoire Traumatique et Victimologie published on Tuesday the results of its latest survey “The French e s and representations on rape”. Despite improvements, some figures remain worrying.
Pornography, rape culture, sexist stereotypes... For the third time since 2016, the association Mรฉmoire Traumatique et Victimologie has made an inventory of the representations of the French. While a number of behaviors are increasingly considered rape, one in five French people still consider that forcing their spouse to have sex is not rape.
It is young people aged 18 to 24 who qualify certain situations the least as rape: they are 52% to consider that it is common for people who accuse of rape to lie out of romantic disappointment or revenge (compared to 37% for the rest of population). Similarly, 18-24 are 36% to think that a woman can take pleasure in being humiliated or insulted (against 12% among the rest of the French.es). Finally, one out of three young people aged 18-24 believe that pornography is a way like any other to do their sex education .
